KIPA Inventor Interview Film: A Heated Lightweight Module Born from a Collapsed Roof
On 6 October 2026 the Korea Invention Promotion Association's YouTube channel, Invention Story, published a five-minute film featuring Jung Young-soo, chief executive of ACE Inventor, in its Relay Inventor Interview series. The series profiles inventors one after another; this episode covered the company's lightweight solar module technology and how it came about.
The film begins with the heavy snowfall of November 2024, when the weight of accumulated snow brought down the roof of the company's factory. Out of that experience, Jung says, came the idea of a heated lightweight module that melts snow when switched on. Snow load is a problem Korean solar installations face every winter, yet few attempts have been made to address it in the module itself — which is why the company now offers heating modules as a distinct product line.
The technical pivot is an FRP composite film in place of glass. Without glass the module becomes light and flexible, and can therefore be installed on ageing factory roofs with little spare load capacity. That structure, the film explains, follows from a decision to compete on technology in an industry where Chinese manufacturers lead on price.
Jung defines invention as proposing a solution to a problem. The path from a collapsed roof to a heated module is itself an instance of that definition. The video description links to the company's website.
ACE Inventor Inc., founded in November 2022, develops ultra-lightweight building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules. Its core technologies are a water-based hydrogel electrolyte membrane, electrophoretic large-area flexible electrode coating, and ultra-lightweight curved module design using FRP and ETFE composites. The company operates a 50 MW annual production line in Paltan-myeon, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, and holds KS C 8577 BIPV module certification together with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Its patent portfolio includes seven registered Korean patents and one registered US patent, with 23 applications filed in Korea and abroad. Contact info@aceivt.com · www.aceivt.com
